I’m not the fool, fool!

As I was browsing the Android Market yesterday, I ran into a copy of the Quran (Koran by the old school spelling, or on Wikipedia: Qur’an). Naturally I’m curious as to what the heck is in this book, so I downloaded it and started reading. So far I’m partway through chapter 2 and haven’t come across anything particularly shocking (let’s get to the part about killing infidels already). My favorite verse so far is 2:13 which reads “And when it is said to them [false believers]: ‘Believe as the people believe’, they say ‘Shall we believe as fools believe?’ Now surely they themselves are the fools, but they do not know.” Which I read as -

People: What the heck, Unbeliever, why don’t you believe like the rest of us?

Unbeliever: I’m not believing that, y’all are fools!

Little did Unbeliever know, he was the fool!

Things that are Awesome: GMail Tree Theme

GMail Tree Theme

The tree theme is based  on the weather,  so most days it’s pretty mellow and unobtrusive, but every once in a while I log in and my inbox is being blasted by lightning. Amusingly enough, there was a morning last December where I woke up to find snow drifts on my inbox. I naturally thought this must be an exaggeration (this is East Texas), but upon looking out the window I found out the Google was right and I was wrong. Never should have doubted.

(Yes, you photographically minded people, there is a huge seam through the middle of my screenshot. I wanted to show the whole theme, but couldn’t get it all in a single screenshot, so I took 2 and clumsily Gimp’d them together.)

EDIT: After posting this, I was really tickled  to see  the ship from my background clearly visible behind the screenshot. How often do you  get see a ship in an inbox during a thunderstorm?

Modern technology - the ability to do things with an increasingly smaller keyboard on a slower computer over an even slower network

You heard me right: “increasingly smaller”.

Dorm 11 v. Dorm 11

I thought it would be fun to set up a chessboard in my room and have people make a move whenever they came. Turns out…it is! People are more interested in the idea than I actually expected and pretty much everyone  who’s come into my room over the last couple days has made a move. So far we have:

1. g4 b6
2. Nf3 Nf6
3. d3 Nxg4
4. h3 Nxf2
5. Kxf2 Bb7
6. Rg1

Yeah…the quality of play hasn’t been the highest, but that’s part of the entertainment value. I’ll definitely keep you posted if anything exciting happens.
